We all know that the boomer generation ran out of fucks to give around 2005. However, I am convinced that some way, some how, their perception of money &amp; economics is stuck in the 1970s, and or they pretend not to understand current economic realities. Maybe the fact that a lot of them are flush with retirement fund cash nowadays factors into that. In context, my wife &amp; I bought our home for about $295k in 2021. Yesterday, when talking to my parents about this when the subject of our imminent move came up, I was discussing my disgust at the radically inflated average home prices we are seeing in the area we are aiming to move to come July (nothing safe or decent for under $500k so far), and in response, both of them literally gave one of the most tone-deaf, short bus-tier takes I have ever heard in my life- &quot;$295,000? It&#39;s not our problem that the two of you got fooled into paying that for your current house. You got ripped off; there are plenty of brand-new single family homes being built everywhere for well under $120,000. If you can&#39;t find a 3,000 square-foot, four-bedroom house on an acre for around that, then maybe you need to relearn how to read and do basic math or cut down your &#39;wish list&#39;, because the two of you obviously aren&#39;t looking hard enough. We bought the home you were raised in, brand new, for under $80 grand.&quot; Is this generation honestly that stupid, or are they simply thumbing their success in our faces for kicks?

Dear Lord. I run into this with older people as well. I don't think it's even deliberate maliciousness on their part for the most. They've had a mind virus inserted through media and programming and peer consensus. It's not different from Christians spouting "God's chosen people" or vaxxers and their "trust the science." I understand how it happens. I cannot forgive them for being so lazy they can't be bothered to look around and see the truth. And all the more so for how they sabotage us and those around them.

@CliffSecord to paraphrase Upton Sinclair, “It is difficult to get a man to understand something when his [livelihood/mental stability] relies on him not understanding that thing” in the context, the existence of crushing inflation is an ‘unknowable fact’; to acknowledge it means that they have to acknowledge that they are not, in fact, the grooviest generation to ever walk the earth, and in fact only got what they did through a combination of pure happenstance and avaricious strip-mining of their own children which is unfortunately (for them) collapsing faster than they are dying off, so they have to witness it it’s all about the feels, in other words
