i guess she thought, if she kept me busy sewing by hand instead of machine, i wouldn’t develop the skills to end in a sweatshop.
and she was right. i didn't.
fast forward to 2014.
my life fell apart after my divorce but one good to come out of it was my ADHD diagnosis, and getting the proper Rx to treat it. that year, almost a decade of “depression” was gone and i was feeling like a new person.
who was also broke.
and also wanted quality time with her mom.
so i tiptoed around the subject…

and i asked mami, would you teach me to sew on the machine… again? this is my late 40s. my ex-husband left me for a younger, rich woman. so am feeling a way. and i really wanted to spend time en la isla, with her, by myself. i could go back later with the kids. i thought, i just needed like 3 weeks. i knew i was supposed to get a settlement, i thought, why not go home and be with mami. and so we talked about #sewing throughout the year, while i waited for that fucking settlement…
