I think a lot of people have almost some kind of cognitive blindness to idea that technology can be community run. It's not enough to explain or show or take them to it, they'll keep excusing how it can't possibly be a thing, and if it is than surely it will "fail" or has already failed.

@boggo I've seen people argue that social media should be a public utility because a federated system can't work...they didn't seem to worry how it would work across jurisdictions.

@boggo half of the business talks I have is: Them: "I wish this thing exists" Me: "there is an open source tool that does it." Them: *heard open source and ignored the rest.* "yeah, I just wish it exists." Me: *sigh*
