@nnethercote@mas.to glad we had a chance to work together. Good luck on your next position. Hopefully you can find one quickly that's a good fit.

  • @nnethercote@mas.to I use Rust. Thank you for your work. And tons of respect for what you will NOT work with, as per your letter. Wishing you the best.

@nnethercote@mas.to thank you for all the work on Rust and your articles about it! I hope you'll find something next that allows you to continue this work, it's important!

@nnethercote@mas.to boosted & wishing good luck there. One question re the post, it left me wondering -- is there something that you'd do totally completely differently if you had the chance to start the whole rustc again?

@nnethercote@mas.to > I am not interested in any of the following: > > * blockchain/cryptocurrencies > * generative AI > * algorithmic trading > * relocating from Melbourne Same (except for different place on a different continent), and it makes things really annoying ATM.

  • @nnethercote@mas.to oof, hoping someone realizes what an opportunity this is and snatches you up! Also under your qualifications you left out the fact that you're a lovely person and colleague.

  • @nnethercote@mas.to Good luck! Also, I like this sentence: > AI is sucking up a lot of money and attention in the tech world, leaving less for everything else. Most people reading this probably just think "yeah makes sense" and keep on reading, because its just an obvious truth. But that's what makes it kinda funny, since it's the exact opposite of "AI" sales pitch, which is more like "makes everything cheaper and peoples work more efficient" 🤡

@nnethercote@mas.to Probably you already thought of them, but just in case - did you try pinging @oxidecomputer@hachyderm.io ? They seem to be chanelling a lot of the old Sun magic and are up to their necks in Rust...

@nnethercote@mas.to I’d be interested in chatting. @graydon@types.pl can vouch that I’m not a crazy person, or at least only the good kind of crazy. Roughly speaking, I’d consider funding you to work half time on the Rust compiler, and half time on compiler-shaped problems in some CAD research I’m leading.
