Basically I read anything and everything I find on fungal computing these days. So keep that in mind with my enthusiasm for this... damn interesting! https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0303264726000493 "sensing, processing, memory, and repair" "These signals respond to mechanical disturbance, chemical exposure, nutrient availability, temperature, and injury, indicating that mycelium functions as a continuous, analogue sensing medium" "global organisation emerges from local growth rules and physiological feedback"

Still been wondering about organic amplification for direct audio usage still. Whilst, yes, that would be cool. It's beyond me a bit with how it's being done in some labs. BUT!!! if I can hear fingers touching each other when they're near my ears (or with amazing microphones) why not do things that way? Developing a fungal synth system that is in-ear, or near-ear would get around this issue. Repeaters? 1000x the mass, but trained to repeat? 1000x the output. Not sure about timing and noise.
