@sam This is like complaining that people who are being repeatedly kicked while lying on the ground are whimpering too much. Anger is a natural reaction to mistreatment and to compare that to conservatism is just hilariously offensive. I'd think you where less bigoted if you just called me a slur.

@sam@sillier.woem.space I think the biggest problem is that the term is so muddied and badly defined. Same as with calling everythind "smart" back in the day. Specially trained pattern recognition machines are extremely useful in many fields but they are lumped in with the worst unneeded generative LLM features. And even generative "AI" has special use cases that are helpful. I read about that using a specially trained generative AI is superior to using algorithmic climate models for weather prediction while yieding similar precision. The AI can use shortcuts and heuristics to predict weather wich is faster and more energy efficient than calculating a physics model several times with different inputs to get a median. THere is nuance in any topic. But yeah the general AI hype... mostly pretty bad and I hope the bubble collapses so we can focus on the fewer actual good use cases.
