We use 32 million ha of land globally (ca. 1 Germany) to grow plants for biofuels. This equals 1.400 TWh per year, or 4% of our global energy consumption for transport. If we'd use the same area for PV, we could produce 32.000 TWh per year, already considering the potential yield for the areas where we grow bio fuel plants.   • The solution is definitely not to plaster the entire area with PV. It's just showing the mind-blowing contrast. Another great factor: If we electrify large parts of the transport sector, we reduce the energy consumption drastically.

    @bastianallgeier — That seemed to be a similar story in this other video that was doing the rounds. Seeing these things always makes me wonder: do the people in control of these decisions just never see videos like this? Like, in Ireland, everyone’s up in arms about reducing petrol costs, and the govt is going to relax levies. But why not have been encouraging farmers to build solar farms?   • @bastianallgeier It ought to be mandatory for all new buildings ) and renovations/upgrades) to have PV cells. Everywhere.
