Is refusing to shake hands across an open door a Canadian superstition, a finance industry superstition, or something broader I've never heard of before? Because the landlord sent an Canadian friend to inspect some water damage today, and that's the first thing he did on arrival. Naturally I did not actually invite him in, just backed off from the door to see if he could enter freely and of his own will.
