Why is tech the one area* where generative AI has been embraced to any degree by the workers? The turn-of-the-millennium wave of successful tech entrepreneurs has produced a techbro class where every mediocre programmer believes he's the next jeff bezos or mark zuckerberg, just one app away from induction into the inner circle of big tech executives. He doesn't care about giving up his autonomy for a subscription to ClaudeGPT because he was never able to make anything without Stack Overflow in the first place. He doesn't care that programming will require a subscription and a top-of-the-line PC and the newest corporate OS, because he would have bought and/or made his employer buy those things anyway. Corporate software developers are in general the biggest class traitors of our generation. * yes, generative ai is also used to slop out "writing" and images, but the writers and artists have unilaterally rejected it

@Tak I don't have any specific insight, but I have to imagine that some of the mentalities behind and caused by the lack of unionisation within tech spaces is playing a role
