There is a distribution problem in the antara, and I have to remind myself to breathe, take time, remain oriented to the taal in order that I don't finish the section too early and lose momentum — the final bol-taan in 32nd-notes needs to start on beat 13 of the slow teentaal (37 bpm) in order to land correctly. A couple of passes through the section squares that away. 4/

  • At 8:03 I switch to the second item I'll be singing, the rupak composition "mora piya" in Nayaki Kanada. While both of these Jaipur-style khyals have melismatic mukhdas, they differ extremely in other ways. Where the Bihagada piece has a sustained flow which even includes the pauses in its sweeping forward motion, the Nayaki Kanada khyal feels dramatic, eventful, like watching a swordfight. 5/
