@Rudolf_von_Goldenbaum the cooling wouldn't be much different, but they would probably melt faster and water down the drink if they are really small (larger surface area)
could that be it?

@WandererUber Probably. Maybe there's a mind trick where if you see a nice fat cube still floating in your drink it seems cooler, but if it's all melted after a minute you think "this is bullshit" even if the drink might actually be colder at that moment.
