@0x2ba22e11@unstable.systems @StarkRG@myside-yourside.net @molly0xfff@hachyderm.io The other place the analogy falls down is that pretty much everyone knows what dynamite is. They know what it does[1] and why using lighted dynamite as a suppository is probably a bad idea. In contrast, AI marketing is deliberately confusing. It takes a meaningless word that has science fiction connotations and attaches it to technology that does not have the properties that the science fiction embodiments did. It is a marketing term that is deliberately designed to confuse. Imagine, instead, that a well-funded industry had marketed the term 'Blockage Clearance' (BC) for a massive range of activities including excavation, sink cleaning, and constipation. And then someone sells a Constipation BC™ product which is a stick of dynamite that you use as a suppository. The seller is a well-known brand and the product is on the market for a while without being withdrawn or the sellers prosecuted. Would you expect a normal person to realise that using it is a bad idea? Or would you expect the legal system to act? [1] Though, interestingly, dynamite is stabilised nitroglycerine, and another form of stabilised nitroglycerine is sold as a heart medication and is quite effective.

@david_chisnall@infosec.exchange @0x2ba22e11@unstable.systems @molly0xfff@hachyderm.io Sure, and if your only source of information is marketing and press releases, then you probably have an extremely skewed idea of reality and you're probably being taken advantage of left, right, and centre.
