We had a heat pump water heater installed last week, and I've just realised we've invented the most ridiculous solar hot water system ever: the sun hits solar panels on the roof to provide the power to the fan, which pulls hot air from the attic, heated by the sun's radiation hitting the uninsulated roof, the heat pump directs that heat into the water. Solar power, with an obscene amount of indirection.
