Why are the USB sockets and HDMI ports on most smart TVs in the BACK of the damned things? Why not on the rims for easier access?

Come to think of it, I could ask the same question about my desktop computer! I'd really rather that more of the ports were in the front. The long-term connections can be in the back, fine. But I only have two USB ports in the front. I have to use one for my wireless mouse dongle, because the mouse acts funny when the dongle is in the back. Lags. And I use the other one for whatever flash drive I'm using, or my webcam, or to connect my cell phone for various purposes. It's kind of a pain in the ass!
