the more I consider it, the more I think I should definitely buy another of those HDDs next weekend if I can still get one for less than $90 or so. every article I've read, most of them quoting industry execs and insiders, has been saying the same thing: don't expect the storage and RAM crunch to ease for at least a year from now, bare minimum. only possibility is if the AI bubble pops soon and pops hard, and even in that case I'd have overpaid a negligible amount for a drive that'll remain useful for at least a couple more years, given that I'm pretty wedded to 2.5" and will be for another generation or two of replacements and hand-me-down upgrades in my little flock.
