@mnot I believe that Cory Doctorow described the whole thing as a "mind control" machine. And like all such devices, it never worked.

@mnot very "are we the baddies" vibes. At least somebody is starting to get it. Save the evils of psychological manipulation in search of profit (aka advertising) for a future level of soul searching but this is at least the right track.

@mnot i find it too little too late. admitting after you hit the iceberg and the ship has sunk that you didn't heed warnings isn't noteworthy; it's more cringeworthy.
