There are some really important conversations happening about how marginalized communities are going to be the ones left out of a widespread move to Mastodon. (I've RTed some things re: Black Twitter for folks who are still over there.)

@cfiesler Mastodon feels closer to my Twitter feed from 6 years ago before I made a more deliberate efforts to broaden the perspectives in my feed. It's more cozy and comfortable in some ways, but I'm not sure that's a good thing.

@cfiesler Counter-proposal: if any other moves are happening, it might be our best interest to keep an eye out for them and support if necessary (whether by spreading information or other means). Transformative fandom communities are moving significantly back (or even for the first time) to Tumblr, other marginalized groups might find other answers for themselves or learn to use Twitter despite Musk, like they have been doing before

@cfiesler So glad people are talking about it! the AskHistorians mod team has been discussing setting up a server, but it's complicated and costly, which limits who can run these spaces. And since the people who set up the servers are the ones making the rules and enforcing them, it feels like we're just sort of distributing power to the already privileged. Tale as old as time!
