Onto the second 54813B scope. This one immediately boots up to a BIOS screen. It has 512MB instead of 256MB of memory. But it doesn’t detect a HD. This makes sense… because when I open it up, it doesn’t have one. It also doesn’t have any of the IDE cables or the special adapter board to connect to the LS120 floppy drive. I think I’ll simply give up on the LS120 floppy drive, but 2 IDE cables and a compact flash adapter. That concludes the work for today.

  • Previous owner had a cat. There is no other explanation.

  • Instead of a parallel IDE cable and CompactFlash adapter card, there's this elegant solution of an adapter that plugs straight into the motherboard, no cable required. Works really well! So now there's only 1 flat cable for the CDROM, and the BIOS detects both.
