Does that count for Italian citizenship? #Canada: My ancestors killed redcoats in the Revolution. Would you overlook that?

  • @benroyce Have you, or members of your family, ever eaten a pizza Hawaii? Have you ever claimed that the best pizza in the world is made in Chicago, New York or any other American city? Those are the crucial questions for Italian citizenship.

@benroyce Not that I'd be in a mad rush to do so but I was born Italian in the Netherlands. When my dad decided to take the Dutch nationality this was also applied to me and my sister. I only discovered this recently; I thought I had always been Dutch. Anyhoooo. I'm more likely to apply for the Irish nationality since I live here, rather than try to reclaim my Italian one ๐Ÿ™‚

@benroyce In the hope that this information will be useful, I would like to inform you that, effective March 28, 2025, Italian citizenship by descent will be limited to descendants up to the second generation (parents or grandparents born in Italy).

@benroyce@mastodon.social I know my Austrian ancestors came to the US through Canada. TIL that great grandpa did become a naturalized citizen of Canada. Which, I'm sure means nothing. But it is interesting to me.
