Also, data point: you say maiden? I did a poll a few years ago and no one knew what I meant! Where are you(r family) from originally? I’m wondering if it’s southern Lancastrian.

@flick@spinster.club Well my mother is an Irish/Scottish mongrel and my father an English/German mix. So I don't quite know where it came from but I think we can say it wasn't German. We did use some German names for stuff though, Shrank was common 'cupboard' for some reason. My father's English stock traces it roots back to Stoke so you might have hit it close to the mark. I thought it was a commonly known one, what do other people call them?
