What’s unsettling about calling the #ICE killing of #RenéeGood “another #GeorgeFloyd moment” is how quickly #Black pain gets repackaged into a generic template for “state violence,” especially when the victim is #White. George Floyd’s murder was a specifically anti‑Black terror event in a long history of #racist policing; treating it as a floating metaphor for any shocking killing in Minneapolis feels like Black erasure even when the intent is solidarity. #BLM #BlackMastodon

@ErikaSumner I feel the same way about the nonstop Holocaust analogies about everything. I guess it would be good if one had confidence that the intent is to link the struggles rather than to erase the particularity of each struggle, or even just reach for convenient and easy rhetoric

  • @ErikaSumner I would say it is more of a "Kent State" moment. When average (white) people realized that they and their children were also targets.

@ErikaSumner When I think of the names of black people I can recall off the top of my head, without really thinking about it, I get sick all over again. Not just George Floyd, Philando Castille, Mike Brown, Sandra Bland, Michael Stewart. That's off the top of my head, I can't imagine what this is like for people who actually work on this stuff.
