@jpoesen as it turns out. On Mastodon. After using mastodon more actively for the past couple of days I tripped over what I've been unable to find for years on the other social media platforms. A local volunteer group effort to help people get away from big tech.

Follow #SolarPunkSunday for weekend posts on repair cafes, rewilding, bees, wildlife, nature, gardening, visible mending, more gardening, vegan recipes, community building, nature-based learning, libraries of things and much much more. Also follow #Bike and #CriticalMass for bike-associated events because there are loads of them and we can't always tag everything. 🌱

@jpoesen what part of Spanish countryside are you in? We're thinking of moving to Galicia to explore similar pursuits.

@jpoesen There's !bikenite@fedigroups.social (people also use the hashtag bikenite). Also I just heard about this podcast yesterday, which sounds related: https://solarcast.cc/@solarcast/posts/ede04a09-2fb2-4f48-b30d-6f5e5b496535

@jpoesen Permacomputing related online and offline communities might be relevant here. Gopherspace (gopher protocol) with its user pages may also be one such online niche.

@jpoesen If you're referring to in-person pursuits, adding a location or region where you live might be helpful if you're wanting more locally tailored answers.

@jpoesen Permaculture is more concerned with ethics than low tech (The ethics of earth care, people care and fair share). Practitioners tend to focus on appropriate technology. Solar panels have a negative environmental impact to manufacture, but are miles better than the alternatives. Sodium ion batteries are a better technology than lithium based chemistries, etc. There is a an emphasis on natural building, but doesn't forbid things like foam glass insulation (despite embodied carbon).
