This morning’s Wikipedia #history rabbit hole: reading about the Darién gap, which I’ve always been fascinated by (and recently highlighted in #Pluribus) I learned about the Kingdom of Scotland’s mad plan ‘the Darien scheme’ (woefully unaware of the climate and tropical diseases) which sought to colonise that area in 1698. It killed almost all the settlers, nearly bankrupted the country, and highly influenced them signing the Acts of Union that led to Great Britain. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darien_scheme
