RE: https://tech.lgbt/@Natasha_Jay/117382397216266564 that’s why #NASA hired teams of #embroidery #knitting #beading #fiberArts experts who all so happened to be not just women but mostly Native American, African American and Latinas. they were nicknamed the Little Old Ladies and without them there would be no Apollo program. they won't even teach you in school that the LOLs were preceded by women who ―if they wanted a chance to enter college, a privilege only for men― they did so by being computers (mathematicians) for “real” scientists. 🧵…

what happened after the Apollo program with #publicEducation makes absolutely no sense whatsoever if you are to believe USA fought #fascism during WW2 and won. why kill #homeEconomics #domesticArts #arts #crafts programs, if those are the skills that gave you the Computers whose skills were instrumental in building the computers, the rockets, the clothing, everything that got men into space?!?!?!? because it wasn't just women who did that but Black Women, Native Women, Latinas…

@blogdiva@mastodon.social So, this smacks of AI generated imaging. I tried reverse image searching and only current images of this show up, no historical archives. Curious if there's a pre-AI source. Maybe colorized? Don't know. Anyway, if you see any reliable photo on this that is not reddit/LinkedIn

@blogdiva@mastodon.social In 1982 or so I was in my first job, at DEC, then the world's 2nd-largest computer company. I got a tour of a manufacturing plant and there was this huge room full of people operating wire-wrap machines to build backplanes. As far as I could tell, 100% of the people were brown-skinned women of South Asian extraction.

@blogdiva@mastodon.social I thought I was already following you but I guess not...I have fixed that. Related to your thread, I'm reading Blood in the Machine right now, about the Luddites.

@blogdiva@mastodon.social holy shit this thread needs to be on the curriculum in every tech-oriented school or course. And probably anything dealing with ... all the problems. And history. And .. wow. If the thread is in response to something I can't see it. Halp?

@blogdiva@mastodon.social this is... i'm not sure how to put it ... fascinating, infuriating, so many other things i can't even. it would be a really excellent piece for a magazine or something. i am so sorry you didn't get the chance to learn sewing from your mami. but clearly you have done her proud all by yourself. 🖤 🖤 🖤
