@hacks4pancakes@infosec.exchange when we visited the US me and my husband had to ask the waitor what the correct amount of tip was. And then had to explain that we don't have that where were from or when it happens its not as formalised so its vague at best. Since going to a restaurant was so uncomfortable we just stopped and mostly ate ready made meals from a shop. The idea that I am meant to judge the staff based on some metric I don't understand is dehumanising

  • @ohyran@social.piewpiew.se @hacks4pancakes@infosec.exchange There’s been a recent trend for corporate chain restaurants to add a tip line even if it’s not a traditional tipping establishment. There’s only a moral obligation to tip at restaurants with table service. Wait staff has a lower minimum wage (like 2-3$/hr) and the tips are 90% of their income.
