I hate when my music library drifts over time. Example: - Add "Phantom of the Opera" to my library - 3 years pass - Now there's 5 "Phantom of the Opera" albums in my library, each with only a partial set of songs. I guess the mistake here is calling it _my_ music library. It's not mine. It’s Apple’s. What’s mine are the pointers to Apple’s music catalog. Apple (& rights holders) get to decide what constitutes an album — now and in the future.

@jimniels That's a not insignificant part of what drove me off of streaming.

I think the easy solution here is to make a “Phantom of the Opera” playlist, containing all the songs from the musical. Harder and more risky solution for now is to pirate and download all decoded mp4 files to local machines, and use an free and open-source music player. But really, I wish all music platforms can be like bandcamp, where we pay the artists directly and download original audio files with no questions asked.

@jimniels one of the reasons I started rekindling my preference of purchasing music and curating my own library

@jimniels I’m listening to my own copy of music more and more. I’ve even started buying MP3’s again for that express purpose. I use streaming more as a discovery tool these days.

@jimniels I have this as well, many people do. It should be easy to fix but they don’t care enough to fix it. It seems to be a part of the gradual erosion of empathy for the user at Apple. I like Craig, he seems like a nice guy, but it is really on him to reestablish that standard of care, and he has other priorities.

@jimniels I was just gonna reply: tell me you are using Apple Music without telling me 😅
