Idk what a DEC Server 700-16 does, but I have one at my work for some reason 🤔 It apparently has a 68020 CPU and SIMM slots for RAM! #oldtech #it #dec #vintagepc

Update: did a search. This is what you'd connect DEC terminals to! This particular one handles up to 16 terminals. Neat! 🤓 Too bad I don't have any old DEC terminals to play with 🥹

@javensbukan 1) have you installed Linux on it yet? 2) could you play Doom on it?

@javensbukan that fat connector on the right hand side is an old fashioned Ethernet connector. Back when these were made you had to plug a separate Ethernet transceiver into your device and the transceiver would have the actual connection to the wiring. That included the possibility of using a vampire tap which pierced the plastic exterior of the cable to make a connection. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vampire_tap retro tech can be so very odd.

@javensbukan Without looking it up, I'm guessing a terminal server. Does it have a handful of serial ports on the back?
