The very first time I had cilantro rice at a Chili's, I legitimately thought they sprayed my plate with cleaner. It is now one of my favorite herbs. That doesn't track with what I've heard about how 'the cilantro gene' works. But it's more recently occurred to me that I love rose and lavender and violet and 'tastes like perfume' isn't really a bad thing to me? Maybe I just like soap now. 🤷🏻♀️

@thecrushedviolet@mstdn.games To me it doesn't taste like soap (flowery, perfumed or antiseptic). It does overpower everything else and tastes very unpleasantly like itself! Maybe like something musty or stale idk.

@thecrushedviolet@mstdn.games FWIW my wife says it tastes and smells like "beetle bug" which is not a reference I can relate to. Needless to say she's not as much of a fan as I am. By the way, I think internationally it's better known as coriander - "cilantro" is a US thing
