Weeellll hey all. We&#39;re having another wave of s(p/c)ammers reaching out to tell the unsuspecting and naive that they somehow need to contact &quot;mastodon support&quot; or click a link to &quot;verify&quot; their account or something. Just a reminder that this is like random calls from &quot;The Windows Department&quot; or &quot;your credit card security team&quot; asking you for info. There is no &quot;Mastodon support&quot; or &quot;verification&quot;, unless you are contacted from the account that matches the admin/owner of YOUR instance name.

I have no idea how these keywankers get any traction out of this, except that they might hit the 2 or 3 extremely naive brand new users on one of the HUGE instances. Otherwise, one of the strengths of the federated model SHOULD be that we all understand we're not "on Mastodon", we are connected in our small-to-medium, open-but-authenticated individual servers. I rather like that we can have the sort of Know Your Client operations that bespoke banking does, at the scale we are at.

@proprietor Might be worth mentioning that if you visit the About page for your instance, it lists who the admins are so you can be sure.

@proprietor Very disappointing. Don't they know they are supposed to spell it Mastadon for aesthetic reasons?
