@chefx@defcon.social @chrisoliver@indieweb.social @pluralistic@mamot.fr We could use some kind of system where ownership of a movie sold (to own) is registered, and if one company turns evil or goes bust, other members of the scheme make sure it is still available to the buyer. But it would be *huge*, and probably prone to errors.

@RupertReynolds@hachyderm.io @chefx@defcon.social @pluralistic@mamot.fr we need laws that allow consumers to transfer all their DRM-laden digital media from one platform to another and makes digital purchases irrevocable.

@RupertReynolds@hachyderm.io @chrisoliver@indieweb.social @pluralistic@mamot.fr The simplest solution is having items physically, and for digital goods without copy-protection or at least copy protection that does not need an online service. For example some Blu-Ray players have expiring licenses and at some point will stop playing Blu-Rays until you update the license. This is not acceptable. Regular DVDs are offline only, which is why I am buying them. Only downside is terrible resolution 💀
