I strongly suspect that the current generation of engineers - of all types - have so many workplace distractions and interruptions that they rarely if ever find themselves "in the zone". That transcendental space where the entirety of the design is clear in your mind, the next three steps forward are queued up waiting to be typed in, another crystalizing as soon as the first is instantiated, and before you know it hours have passed and you have made (regular) days of progress. Management tried having offsite meetings to work out a set of checkpoints and a reporting structure to ensure that everyone implements an efficient working process. That didn't work, so they're insisting that everyone uses LLMs and they'll micromanage based on the logs. When we just need space and time enough to think.
