Yes, that's what I've heard: that third-worlders started to use hot sauces out of necessity, to mask the taste of rotten meat. Which is exactly why it makes no sense for us to use those kinds of products today. At least, that's my opinion.

It really depends on what you're eating. Nobody's going to stuff a beef wellington or a pasta alfredo with hot peppers. That's madness. But it can really bring a pot of chili together.
