I am considering buying a car, after not having one since I sold my last one right before leaving the U.S. The main reason I need a car is to get a full driver's license, which requires a car to practice in and test in. I've already figured out that it needs to be an automatic (so my spouse's car is out). (No I can't just rent a car because they don't let people without full drivers' licenses rent cars.) The main reason I need a full driver's license is so I can apply for jobs that require them. After which I'd probably drive workplace cars. But if the car I bought was an EV, we could then replace my spouse's ICE car. But. Licensing, registration, taxes, insurance, warrants of fitness multiple times per year, maintenance, repairs. :( All things that cost an enormous amount of money and a fair amount of mental overhead to keep track of. All things that I've been immensely enjoying not having to think about at all for the past 8 years. (There's also the side problem that modern cars all seem to have touchscreens and are designed to spy on you for the manufacturer, which are both big minuses. But that's a whole tangent about living in modern times.)
