@Casey@theforkiverse.com @kevin@theforkiverse.com @pj@theforkiverse.com you all totally collapsed my parasocial network this week with this and Casey being in VergeCast. Is Ezra going to be a surprise guest too 🤯

@Casey@theforkiverse.com @kevin@theforkiverse.com @pj@theforkiverse.com as far as the direction for #forkiverse, why not ask us for ideas? I don’t have any good ones but I bet some of the#forkizens might! I am just enjoying meeting people and making new connections.

@Casey@theforkiverse.com @kevin@theforkiverse.com @pj@theforkiverse.com Good episode! I have no idea if social media is bad for kids, but if kids are anything like adults, it is good for some and bad for others. There are some people on social media whose sole purpose is to teach people cool things, for example @crimepaysbutbotanydoesnt has the persona of a Chicago gangster who very much wants to get you into botany and appreciating the natural world. This person uses social media well.

I'm convinced about social media and kids and feel fortunate my kids are just a bit too old to have been part of the Anxious Generation and optimistic that my future grandchildren will grow up in a time when smartphones in school will seem as crazy as my high school's smoking section.

@Casey@theforkiverse.com @kevin@theforkiverse.com @pj@theforkiverse.com Just listened! Wild to see Fedi hit a slice of the mainstream, as someone who’s been advocating for free software for some years now. A quick comment: y’all talked a about “phase 2” for the Forkiverse, and discussed ways to make the server itself feel more like a community. Have y’all thought about how (or if) y’all wanna make the Forkiverse a part of the larger Fediverse community? Godspeed with the experiment!

@Casey@theforkiverse.com I feel like you really missed an opportunity with that hater with the worst case scenario of “just create another account” — to “go fork yourself”

@Casey@theforkiverse.com @kevin@theforkiverse.com @pj@theforkiverse.com great episode! You've done a few episodes on Claude Code and how they are clearly leaders in coding agents. If AGI is the goal, is Anthropic best suited to reach the "take off point" sooner given their lead in coding? How does this compare with Google and OpenAI's strategies? That'd be an interesting episode.

@Casey@theforkiverse.com @kevin@theforkiverse.com @pj@theforkiverse.com Was listening to the podcast today and hearing pj express the wish to develop the forkiverse into a thriving community, it hit me that I am a real, live expert in community building and that I might have something to contribute here. My phd is in ed tech and learning design, and I wrote my dissertation on trauma informed-practices in online learning. Trauma-informed practices are informed by relationships and in a group setting involve connection with community 1/4 #Forkiverse

@Casey@theforkiverse.com @kevin@theforkiverse.com @pj@theforkiverse.com Great episode today, thanks for bringing Jon Haidt back. Also, thanks for this experiment in social media! Not long ago, on Your Undivided Attention, Tristan & Aza did a short episode "What if we'd fixed social media?" This feels like a step into that fabulous daydream. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/what-if-we-had-fixed-social-media/id1460030305?i=1000735540245

@Casey@theforkiverse.com @kevin@theforkiverse.com @pj@theforkiverse.com The problem is not the parents. This is victim blaming. It's like blaming parents for having obese children, or like blaming people for causing Climate Change. The problem is the industries and leaders profiting off these products. Meta could easily reduce the harms its products are doing, but never will because that will harm their profits, so the dance around the edges of the problem, doing as little as possible.

@Casey@theforkiverse.com @kevin@theforkiverse.com @pj@theforkiverse.com Australia is not winning with its Teens Social Media ban. I can tell you first hand. And it will not win for the same reason the world is losing on Plastic Pollution and Climate Change. Australia is not going after THE ACTUAL PROBLEM, which are the Algorithms. If Australia demanded that Facebook change is Algorithms to not promote the worst most toxic and addictive content then we would win. The same with Climate Change and Plastic, you go after THE ACTUAL PROBLEM the companies that make and extract and demand they reduce their pollution. The Australia government is fluffing around the edges and it will fail. Same as we are doing with Climate and Fossil Fuels.

@Casey@theforkiverse.com @kevin@theforkiverse.com @pj@theforkiverse.com After hiring developers for several iterations of a personal project, my partner and I have been building with Lovable for the past few months and it's truly blown our minds. I also spent an hour one Saturday with my middle school son building a web app for making chore management less overwhelming for his neurodivergence. He named it after our cat, so I'd say we're off to a solid start.

@Casey@theforkiverse.com @kevin@theforkiverse.com Hey Kevin! I want to ask about security issues in vibecoded apps. As long as your vibecode just runs locally it’s pretty safe, but it sounds like some tools are becoming public web applications. This opens up all sorts of security questions- you’re kind of trusting the LLM to take care of things like password encryption and SQL injection. The vibecoder doesn’t necessarily even know what questions to ask. You said on the podcast that others were now using your Stash app. If it’s actually on a public server, who is checking for security problems?

Finally getting to hear it this evening, and during the first segment I realized that @kevin@theforkiverse.com kept saying “Defense”, despite the new DoW name. Admittedly, my head still thinks military=DoD, but apparently I’m too staid and old-fashioned in my thinking
