@thisislieven@c.im @RandamuMaki@mstdn.social @EUCommission@ec.social-network.europa.eu Wero is EPI (European Payment Initiative), and there’s also the EuroPA (European Payment Alliance) that’s Bizum, Bancomat, MB Way and more. Those will get interconnected and will serve to send money (though Instant SEPA does the same) and payments in stores. Digital Euro is like cash, and should help replace debit cards too. Credit is a different beast, but doable. The thing is payments outside of the EU.

@dmian@mastodon.social It'd be nice if there was a global standard allowing for systems to communicate and there's no need for anyone to go outside of their own national/regional payment system. Given that's unlikely, I do think there's a reasonable chance there will be something in place of or at least alongside the US infrastructure, given the way that's being extorted. A EU-developed system could be that but there are really good examples elsewhere too (India and Brazil, notably). @RandamuMaki@mstdn.social @EUCommission@ec.social-network.europa.eu
