I am currently in the process of evaluating a career change (yes, I hate AI that much). I've been working with a career counselling for the past couple months and we're close to the end of the process.
Before my next appointment, I wanted to "shadow" professionals in a certain field to get an idea of their day-to-day. At first I didn't have the answers I was (impatiently) waiting for, so I asked to push the appointment.
As I got the responses, I now wanted to have the appointment before the weekend to help me process my thinking.
Their answer was yes, but with a fee, to cover the management of so many changes.
I couldn't accept (honestly I found that ridiculous, their professional life revolves around appointments). She didn't mentioned their agreement, but I went and check and even though this is many changes, it doesn't fit into their agreement (meaning I shouldn't have to pay the fee) so I told them.
They were really pissed at me, saying indirectly how ungrateful I was being, after everything they "gave" me for free (certain rebates, longer appointments, work in-between appointments, etc), and that they had kids to feed too. And they retracted the offer for a Friday appointment that they offered me before (I thought it'd be win-win to fill their day)
I responded by saying I was grateful for those things mentioned (which they offered to me without me asking).
But now I'm torn. My usual reaction would be to drop the whole thing, cancel my next appointment and never interact with them again.
I'm not sure I feel comfortable being in their presence. Something in the dynamic got broken.
Am I overreacting?
I think I would get valuable insights in that appointment (which would likely be the last anyway). But I think it would make me very very anxious and uncomfortable.
Oh, and I picked that particular counsellor because they were specialized in neurodivergent people.
