if one distro doesn't work for you, that doesn't make the kernel bad. That's like saying Aluminium sucks because you used one of those cheap ass stamped aluminium laptops, while airplanes are doing just fine.
Ubuntu used to be great, back in 2008, but in my experience it hasn't been for quite a while- that's quite a bit more subjective than actually declaring all of linux bad just because you refused to look further than the first thing you stumbled upon though.

@anthropy@mastodon.derg.nz Most appreciate the kernel is solid as they know it runs half the planet and internet. It's the workstation bit where people take the time to install a novel operating system to replace windows or macos and get a shock when things don't 'just work'. I find Ubuntu LTS to be excellent to be honest and what I'd recommend to n00bs. I'd advise them to avoid novel stuff in constant flux from Arch btw or Fedora as normal humans want an OS that will run like a tank for a decade.
