I haven’t found their activism pitch to be credible for a while. One of the more eye-opening incidents was when ProtonMail gave up IP logs of a user and then removed “no logging” claims from their website. And then the next incident. And the next.

Every time I see this type of argument, I wonder what is expected from Proton. No one ever answers that. Tutanota, another popular provider, also releases data on court orders, so do Mailfence and Countermail. Same goes for messaging services like Telegram or Signal. Most of these also publish yearly transparency reports with detailed information. This is not new, nor unusual. Pretending that Proton is the outlier here is a lie.
