@davidnjoku@mastodon.world Slight tangent, but I'm native British and don't feel the need to apologise for Amritsar. We're still ruled by an aristocracy going back to the Norman conquest. These people own 3-4 times more land than the rest of us combined and treated the poor as a template for how they would treat empire (IMO). I have absolutely nothing in common with these people.

@davidnjoku@mastodon.world I am not proud to be Dutch, it is a coincidence to be Dutch. I am not proud of what my country (= other people who happened to be from the same place) has achieved and I do not feel guilty for what my country (= other people who, etc.) has done wrong. I could sooner have such feelings about Italian things because at the very least my being here is something I achieved. But I don't.
