@small_cypress@indieweb.social Ubuntu was great in 2008 when it was ahead of the rest by some measure because it made things just work, it was truly "Linux for human beings" because it did NOT do anything special, it was a small team that knew exactly what people needed. These days it's a big company with somewhat apple-esque tendencies and a lot of people dislike what they do. It's worth trying e.g Fedora, which is the current "2008 Ubuntu" that just works, is polished, updated, and doesn't try to be special

@small_cypress@indieweb.social Linux Mint is based on an ancient version of Ubuntu (LTS) which probably is the reason why it causes more problems for you than a non-LTS version of Ubuntu. Even normal Ubuntu has a lot of outdated packages though, especially in the 'universe' repositories. Fedora (or e.g Bazzite, sort of like the "Linux Mint of Fedora"), is much more up to date across the board, and seems to be much better tested. If you have modern up to date hardware, it *should* work much better than Ubuntu.

@anthropy@mastodon.derg.nz Awesome! I have a game that is glitchy on ubuntu and linuxmint and have heard it's more stable on fedora w/ kde, so I was curious about that distribution too.
