@dansup@mastodon.social can the user know the position of the mentions in the message? Otherwise it can create an issue if a DM is something like: "Look at what Alice posted. It's Bob and Charlie playing against Dylan. " My 2 cents: user handles in the fediverse are long and complex, you could render only the user section with the server as color/format code. Tooltip on the precise handle renders full content.
