I can see that your new password app is nice, it lets me use my nextcloud server. Why not do the same with system backup?

My first assumption is they're using an Android feature designed by Google which is tightly integrated in Android and meant to be used with a hardcoded endpoint ("for security" or something). I see these backup features with multiple vendors, and they're always locked into their respective ecosystem but work the same at the end of the day.
