English actually has a pretty rich vocabulary. not due to borrowing words from other languages like English speakers seem to believe, but due to its synaesthetic tendencies. when I translate English into any of my other languages, I periodically struggle to convey not just the meaning but the feel or texture of a word ("glisten" as opposite to "glimmer", for example). the one semantic field where I struggle when translating my native tongue is: love, affection, cuddling, promiscuity, sexual vulgarity. it's very difficult to convey concisely in English or Japanese the nuances between asking for a chamego as opposed to some carinho, between a girl being my ficante or my peguete, between asking her to grab on my jeba rather than my pau. for this as in many things, I am exceedingly proud of my culture
