These are not little green apples, they are two fruit of the Black Walnut Tree.
Native to parts of Canada, Black walnuts are the favourite food of squirrels and other small mammals.
The shells are useful for dyeing fabrics.
The Black walnut dark hardwood is harvested to make furniture, veneer, cabinetry, and panelling .

@TrueNorthSpice@mastodon.world easily mistaken for tennis balls – we've had squirrels try to stuff the fruit into our slightly open casement windows. 😂
