i read the actual article. apparently the job of a language is to solely communicate? but no one language is the same. me saying "i love you" carries a different meaning in kazakh than it does in english. many turns of phrase and sayings, poetry and writing is incapable of being directly translated from one language to another. a mother tongue carries a whole world.

apparently some languages are killed, while some "die a natural death". they don't. always, when a language dies out, it dies out in violence. it dies to bullets or genocides or government repression. it dies out because it's "unprofitable" to teach it.
