I am still thinking about a post I read elsewhere about how people don't want the personal changes involved in climate action. And how frustrating it is to see these changes always configured as 'sacrifices' rather than as an opportunity to live better and more joyful lives.
I think about this a lot when it comes to overconsumption and parenting. I would be happy to have a quarter of the objects we currently have in our house. Parenting would be so much easier.
My failure to achieve this is systemic. Yes, I could manage to live differently, but it would require such a huge and constant push back on societal pressures.
How much easier to just be able to live in a society that wasn't built on constant overconsumption to begin with?
