My mom didn't have a framework for what was happening. She thought I wasn't trying. I thought I was morally failing. We fought about initiative and fear for 16 years because no one ever told us: this is neurological disability, not laziness.

TSBVI hasn't changed. Their website still emphasizes independence above all else. The only additional disability they acknowledge is deafblindness. No mention of autism, executive dysfunction, chronic illness, or any of the conditions multiply disabled blind students actually have.
