I returned back to the UK today after being in Spain for a bit, and the British railway didn't disappoint!
1st train cancelled (after a 1 minute platform change)
2nd train cancelled after a few stops
3rd train along a divisionary route to Brighton was fine
4th train to complete the diversion was so full that a lot of people couldn't get on, four carriages and hundreds boarding from a very narrow platform

All this because of a (repeated) signal failure one of the lines. This happens quite frequently in the area when there's heat (and otherwise to a lesser extent). Maybe we should update the signals so this doesn't happen so much? That would likely involve committing to a long-term and well-managed upgrade programme though, which isn't something we're very good at here
