What changes for ordinary Americans if the US is not as much of an imperial power?
Would our nation become so poor the quality of life would deteriorate?
Would a other nations with imperial ambitions fill the void and start some project of world domination?
Would gas cost $6 a gallon forever into all of time?
I'm not as interested in the answers to these questions (in this post) as I am interested in what other Americans who do not share my politics THINK are the answers.

Public support for interventionist wars has always been weak. The cover story for these actions was always something about "spreading democracy" and "keeping America safe" this never really rang true. Our current president just says it's about being a pirate, a bully, "taking the oil" ... There is no moral fig leaf. But, the premise, to me, is also obviously false. "Taking the oil" hasn't made prices go down. Being a bully isn't really thriving or winning.
