Set an upper file size limit (for sanity), zip the absolute tits out of the file, uuencode it, chunk the output in to 200b chunks, fire chunks at node. Node deals with getting the text to a file, decoding, etc. A "not my problem" solution. Set an upper file limit at 1.44MB give or take, that'd be about 4min at 38k4 although about 8 hours at 300baud which is a potential worst case. And the files will be substantially smaller than that
